Big news -- no pigs next year!
We've got big news!
In 2024, we'll be taking a year off of pastured pigs! There are lots of reasons why, but the biggest one is this: I'll have been farming on and off for 20 years in 2024 (crazy I know!) and we need a year to step back, assess our systems and goals, and figure out how to make the next 20 years on our farm physically, mentally, and financially sustainable. (You may have seen on social media that I've got my hand in a cast right now after a farm accident and boy howdy has it been an eye opener to run the farm with only one functioning hand!)
We'll be taking 2024 to experiment on a small scale with some new enterprises -- goat meat? contract grazing cattle? flower seed production? -- and then my intention is to add pastured pigs back in for the 2025 season.
Mostly, I'm so excited about this decision but I get a big lump in my throat when I think about how I may be affecting our customers. If you’re one of our loyal supporters, please accept my deep gratitude for understanding and/or, if it's a better fit, my sincerest apologies for leaving you without a pork hookup for next year.
We still have a few unreserved hogs in case you'd like to get in on our last batch of pork for awhile — just let me know! Nick and I are keeping 5 whole hogs out of this batch to feed us until we harvest pigs again, lol :)
Please let me know if you have questions or concerns. Thanks for reading, big hugs from the Driftless!

P.S. Please enjoy this video of the pigs devouring over a thousand pounds of apples and about 600 hard boiled eggs!
